The core metrics we track to ensure that happens are:

Credentialing

In our pilot, 81% of 42 young adults completed their school programs (compared to a ~5% community college graduation rate locally) and 67% earned certifications. Even in the midst of COVID, nearly 70% of this cohort have completed their school programs and are on their way to full time employment.

Career Placement

In our pilot class, 79% of our young adults obtained full-time or part-time employment. Additionally, we have helped fund and organize over 20 internships or fellowships.

Relationships

Young adults in our program often report feeling more confident, connected, and prepared for full-time work because of the program. When asked what they gained from the program, young adults have responded with answers such as “confidence in interviewing”, “connections in my community”, “a new family”, and “a vision for my future.”

Systems

In order to change systems, we help improve postsecondary access and attainment and impact companies to build more viable pathways. In terms of postsecondary supports, we have designed accelerated programs and integrated wraparound services into schools. With companies, we have designed internships with over 15 companies, including a two year fellowship program with a local hospital. We also planned the Urban Summit, which brought together hundreds of people to explore how to change Memphis Business practices to better address poverty. Lastly, our leadership in public policy has set a progressive agenda for change.
